2025 Volunteer Opportunities:

Detroit Lake Foundation Needs You

We’re looking for passionate and community-minded individuals to help us make a difference in Detroit! Whether it’s assisting at events, helping with outreach, or supporting our ongoing projects, your time and talents are incredibly valuable.

See upcoming volunteer opportunities below:

  • Christmas Tree Lighting

    • Setup Crew (6–8, 2–3 hrs): Set tree perimeter, place cones/signage, run power cords, help position stage/PA.

    • Greeters & Info (4–6, 2 hrs): Hand out programs, answer questions, direct to cocoa/cookies/restrooms.

    • AV Support (2–3, 2–3 hrs): Mic checks, music playlist, cue carols and countdown.

    • Ornament Helpers (3–4, 1.5–2 hrs): Assist kids with hanging ornaments (provide hooks/step stools).

    • Safety Marshals (4–6, 2–3 hrs): Monitor crowd flow, keep exits clear, coordinate with security/first aid.

    • Teardown Crew (6–8, 1.5–2 hrs): Coil cords, load bins, leave site spotless.

    Hot Cocoa Station

    • Prep Crew (3–4, 1.5 hrs pre-event): Mix cocoa, fill cambros/urns, set up condiments (marshmallows, candy canes).

    • Servers (2-3, 2–3 hrs): Pour cocoa, manage lines, restock cups/lids/napkins.

    • Refill Runners (2–3, 2–3 hrs): Shuttle hot water/cocoa, replenish supplies.

    • Cleanup Crew (3–4, 1 hr): Break down, trash/recycling, wipe surfaces.

    Suggested supplies: 8–12 oz cups/lids, napkins, stir sticks, trash/recycling bins, ingredient signage, gloves, tablecloths.

    Community Cookie Exchange

    • Check-In & Labeling (3–4, 2 hrs):

    • Display Stylists (2–3, 1.5 hrs): Arrange trays, tent cards, festive décor.

    • Traffic Flow Hosts (2–3, 1.5–2 hrs): Guide participants through “take one of each” route; prevent bottlenecks.

    • Packaging Table (2–3, 1.5–2 hrs): Provide boxes/bags, parchment, ribbons; help portion.

    • Post-Event Pack-Out (2–3, 1 hr): Consolidate leftovers (for first responders/shelters if applicable), clean tables.

    Bring to share: 2–3 dozen cookies, ingredient list. We provide: boxes, labels, pens, allergy signage.

    Christmas Lighting Contest

    • Registration & Map Team (2–3, 1–2 hrs): Confirm entries, pin addresses on map, assign categories.

    • Judging Drivers (3–4 cars, 2–3 hrs): Follow assigned route; safe driving, on-time scoring.

    • Scorekeepers (2–3, 2–3 hrs): Tally sheets, resolve ties, verify category rules.

    • Photo/Content Crew (2–3, 2–3 hrs): Take exterior photos/video, note best angles for social posts.

    • Awards & Outreach (2–3, 1–2 hrs): Notify winners, coordinate prize pick-up, post results online.

    Judging criteria ideas: Creativity, cohesion/theme, craftsmanship, holiday spirit, curb appeal.

    General Notes

    • Shifts: Most roles are 1.5–3 hours. Youth welcome with guardian.

    • Training: 15-minute on-site huddle before each shift; simple role cards provided.

    • What to wear: Warm layers, closed-toe shoes, volunteer badge (provided).

    • Perks: Hot cocoa, cookie sampler, community service hours if needed.

    Help with chairs, tents, signage, tables, trash bins, etc. Setup evening of July 3 and/or tear down July 6.

    Parade Coordination

    Assist with line-up, float check-in, traffic direction, and parade flow.

    Vendor & Food Support

    Coordinate with food vendors, help with booth setup, serve as point of contact during event.

    Kids Activities

    Help run games, supervise crafts, and assist with fun zones.

    Entertainment & Stage Management

    Assist with music, announcements, stage setup, or coordinate with performers.

    Fireworks Support Crew

    Assist with safety signage, crowd guidance, and liaison with fire department and crew.

    Marketing & Promotions

    Help with social media, flyers, posters, or local outreach before the event.

    Fundraising & Raffle Team

    Solicit raffle items, help with ticket sales, or staff the fundraising booth.

    Sponsorship Solicitation Team

    Help secure sponsorships with local businesses.

The Detroit Lake Foundation was created to increase the livability and community cohesiveness for the community of Detroit, Oregon by providing additional funding sources for city beautification projects and community based programs and activities that are not in the city's funding abilities.

It’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents and establish a sustainable economic recovery to ensure that the city thrives for current and future generations.

100% of proceeds donated will go to the Detroit Lake Foundation to assist in the rebuild of the Detroit, Oregon community and infrastructure.
