Rebuilding - SEDCOR

Even though much of the fires have been extinguished in the Santiam Canyon, residents and business owners have new problems to overcome. The team at SEDCOR believes they deserve a community to help them tackle these problems.

That is why we quickly formed the Canyon Rebuilding Coalition. This group is made up of contractors, material suppliers, and other businesses from all over Oregon.

"We started with 12 businesses," says Nick Harville, Business Retention and Expansion Manager for Marion County. "That number quickly grew to 40. As residents and businesses look to rebuild, this group is going to use all of its resources to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible."

Projects already include:

  • Establishing new locations for materials, namely concrete

  • Identifying trusted contractors

  • Helping residents quickly find the required permits

  • Creating a staging area for contractors to reduce traffic

  • And more

If your business is interested in joining the Canyon Rebuilding Coalition, contact Nick Harville via email at nharville@sedcor.com.

Do you know a Hero in Santiam Canyon?
In the wake of the wildfires of 2020, emerging from the ashes came an army of magic makers who selflessly gave their time, hearts, money and muscle to those who needed it the most.

We’re seeking the rock stars and businesses who have moved mountains to help others spiritually, physically, mentally, financially and emotionally.

Help us honor them by sharing their stories. These stories will be shared publicly on social media and published on a special page of the Santiam Recovery website dedicated to these heroes.

Each nominee will receive a certificate and an electronic copy of the badge for them to be able to publish on their own social media channels.

Nominations are now LIVE at https://www.santiamrecovery.org/hero

Resilient Headwaters Project

Resilient Headwaters is a community-led coalition creating an intentional, strategic pathway to manage the increase in popularity of outdoor recreation, and leverage it to bolster the Santiam Canyon community’s future.

In September of 2020 several large fires ravaged multiple Oregon communities in the Santiam Canyon,
burning almost 1 million acres and 2,600 homes and businesses. Even prior to these fires, the Santiam Canyon communities were already seeking to diversify their economies in the outdoor recreation sector. While restoring basic utilities and rebuilding homes is the top priority, we believe there is boundless untapped potential to develop active recreation in wild places, and in turn, uplift these communities and improve quality of life for canyon residents.
