Personal

As a lifelong Oregonian I was born and raised in Salem. Married to Brenda Owen for 27 years we have raised our two daughters, Hailey, twenty-five & Marissa, twenty-two. I have always had passion for the outdoors. Whether boating, snowmobiling, golfing or gardening I am drawn outside. Growing up our family vacation typically consisted of camping at Detroit State Campground or any on of the other campgrounds around the Detroit Lake area. Raising my own family, I have continued that tradition. Camping & boating we have pulled our girls on tubes every square inch of the lake. We have moored a boat at Kane’s Marina for nearly 20 years and had a summer trailer in their trailer park for 7 years. In February of 2020 we purchased a home on Deer St in Detroit which was a lifelong dream to be able to spend time year-round in the mountains. In September of 2020, the Beachie & Lionshead fires destroyed 80-90% of the entire town. We evacuated in the middle of the night upon emergency alert via sirens and loudspeakers. Along with many of our Detroit friends and neighbors we experienced a harrowing journey through fire, fallen trees and historic high winds to escape to safety. Days later we were to find out that our home was one of very few that had survived the devastation. In that moment I felt not only an opportunity but a responsibility to get involved and in any way I can to help our town, our neighbors and friends to rebuild and begin to put back together the place that we all love. Serving as a board member of the Detroit Lake Foundation has been one of the opportunities to serve this community.

I believe the Foundation and our initial project, The Detroit Community Center, will not only be a place that we, as a community, will not only treasure as a resource but has already given many hope and shows the strength of our little town.
